A two-week break for the House of Commons that began Friday is setting the stage for an uptick in action in the federal Conservative leadership race.

Former MP Leona Alleslev is now adding her name to the list of candidates eyeing a run, while the one official candidate so far has nabbed a major endorsement and several other campaigns are gearing up to formally launch bids.

Alleslev was defeated in the last federal election in the GTA riding of Aurora-Oak Ridges-Richmond Hill, a loss that contributed to concerns that former leader Erin O’Toole could not lead the party to victory if he couldn’t help win ridings like hers.
